KATHMANDU: The sixth global convention of the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) kicked off here today. The theme of the convention is 'NRNs and Nepal: Partners in Prosperity'.
Currently, the closed-door session of the convention is on after the completion of the inaugural session.
Founding Chairman of the NRNA Upendra Mahato, former Chairman Devman Hirachan and Chairman Jeeva Lamichhane jointly inaugurated the general convention amidst a function.
The general convention has already passed the reports submitted by the general secretary and the treasurer. The statute of the NRNA is reported to be amended today itself.
The sixth NRNA global conference will be held on Monday and Tuesday once the convention will be concluded.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to inaugurate the global conference on Monday.
Some 1300 NRNs living in 50 countries across the globe are taking part in the conference. Established a decade ago, the NRNA has its chapters in 65 countries so far.
The conference is schedule to hold discussion for collective investment, foreign employment, continuity of citizenship of the NRNs, and partnership with the private sector in the country, among others.
Senior leaders of major political parties have been invited in the conference and the NRNs would hold discussions with them on the issues for economic prosperity of the country.
The international convention will elect a new executive committee of the Association.
